Joomla! 1.5 Access Control Levels Explained

The Joomla! User Access Control Level or ACL system manages user permissions associated with user levels. Joomla! contains seven different user and group levels: Registered, Author, Editor, Publisher, Manager, Administrator and Super Administrator.

Front-End
Registered User

Registered users have access toparts of the Site that are not acessible to Public Users.

Author

An Author has access to Site Front-end functions only.

Editor

And Editor has access to Site Front-end, authoring and editing functions.

Publisher

A Publisher can access Site Front-end functions and has permission to publish content on the site.

Administration-End
Manager

A Manager has access to all Front-end functions and limited Back-end rights such as:

  • Create and modify content.
  • Access the Media Manager to manage images.
  • Create and modfiy menu items
Administrator

An Administrator has the rights to all Site Front-end functions and a majority of Back-end funcions such as:

  • Access all Front-end functions
  • Create and modify content.
  • Access the Media Manager to manage images.
  • Create and modfiy menu items
  • Create and modify users.
  • Access Global Configuation.
  • Mass mail and Clean Cache functions.
  • Install modules, plugin, components, languages and templates.
Super Administrator

A Super Administrator has the same rights as an Administrator and can create other Super Administrator users.
